and/or

have a keen interest in holistic health

and/or

are ready to start giving back to themselves

The Approach

Nutrition education and holistic care should be personalized and practical - taking into account your needs, goals, and unique circumstances. It shouldn’t feel like a burden, a bore, or be overwhelming. That’s why Foods for Thought sessions are interactive and adaptable. We’ll have open discussion and I’ll share targeted guidance - making sure to always address your primary concerns.

We’ll build knowledge and a framework for thinking that are relevant even outside of the kitchen - you'll walk away with applicable tips and tricks and the confidence to follow through.

“All things matter, everything is connected, and we are all unique.”

-Andrea Nakayama

It sounds cliche, but it’s the truth!

What Comes Next

An exploration for young women

Girls are still growing into women, and yet there are so few comprehensive informative and supportive spaces carved out in our society for them to work through the biology of these changes - especially in an approachable, applicable, real life way.

What Comes Next” modules are created to help navigate the pre-teen years, teen years, and early twenties with a little more clarity and autonomy. Regardless of sexuality, this is a space for girls to make sense of their bodies and what is becoming of them, as well as learn how to care for their physiologies - all in a patient and non-judgmental environment.

One on one, or in a small group (friends together, or even siblings/family members) we'll talk about healthy vs not so healthy habits and food choices, what your body's signals are trying to tell you, how to handle symptoms and sensations as they arise, remedies for common ailments, and more.

As a teen I was diagnosed with obsessive compulsive disorder, body dysmorphic disorder, general anxiety disorder, and depression. These very real psychological conditions were exacerbated by the fact that I wasn’t properly nourishing myself - because I didn’t know how. We now know that mind and body should not be treated as separate, isolated entities. Tending to our physical selves makes a significant impact on our emotional lives (and vice versa!) Through education and select practices we’ll build the strength to help avoid these types of pitfalls (because society is a veritable minefield).

Some things we’ll do in “What Comes Next” sessions:

Examine mindset and the mind/body connection

+ learn tools to keep us feeling our best

Discuss what is happening in our bodies throughout our hormonal cycles

+ address common concerns

Learn how to fuel our bodies for optimal function

whole-food, macro-minded nourishment

Make/eat balanced snacks and beverages

+ plate building, recipe developing

Hands-on holistic remedy making

creative solutions for everyday issues

…and more!

topics vary based on age group

  • What might we do together today?

-We start every session with a snack and a check in. Today we’re having nettle and rose tea, with skyr and berries.

-While we have snack, we’ll check in, review what we did last week, and go over any remaining questions from the “after hours” Whatsapp chat. (During the week questions related to session topics can be asked in the chat, and I’ll answer them during the week between sessions.)

-Hands-on time: We’ll make simple amino-acid rich gummies to accompany protein snacks (everyone takes some home).

-While the gummies set, it’s time to learn about macronutrients : protein, fat and carbohydrates. What they do for us and why we need them + understanding macro-minded plate and snack building : how to best combine and balance macronutrients to keep us feeling good.

    -Finish and distribute gummies!

-Quick announcement about next week’s topic (Hormones! Acne, periods, body odor, etc) so everyone is aware beforehand.

(Have questions about cultural food inclusivity + diversity? About food ethics? About allergies or other sensitivities? Let’s talk! )

About me

Born and raised in Brooklyn, I was a French teacher and tutor here for over 10 years. All throughout I silently struggled with my health. Over the years I have been given a handful of diagnoses (CAEBV, CFS, PCOS, endometriosis, GAD, OCD+BDD, depression, allergies, nutrient deficiencies...) plus an assortment of medications. I was told that these were lifelong conditions, that there was nothing I could do other than try to manage my symptoms. Unsatisfied, I've spent these past few years peeling back the layers, studying nutrition, herbalism, naturopathy, and bodywork. During this time, I've seen more progress and healing than in previous years total. I've even been able to reverse some of my diagnoses, or at least go into remission.

Learning to eat healthfully for my personal physiology has been instrumental through all of this, and I'm grateful to my grandparents for encouraging my participation in the kitchen from such an early age. Thanks to them, I'm not intimidated by food and cooking - and now, combined with an understanding of nutrition and body systems, I hope to empower those around me to feel the same.

So, I've shifted my teaching practice away from my love of language, as I've become dedicated to improving my well-being and the well-being of those around me - which feels fundamental and imperative, more than ever these days.

Hi, I’m Margot :)
